Study
St Mary’s College is committed to supporting our students not only during regular school hours but beyond the classroom. In this regard, our Evening Study facility offers a calm, structured supervised environment for students to focus on homework, revision, and exam preparation.
Evening Study has proven to be a valuable tool in supporting students in reaching their full academic potential. It is specific structured study time, free from distractions i.e. television, mobile phones, gaming systems and social media.
Structure of Evening Study.
The college runs two, teacher supervised studies - Senior Evening Study and Junior Evening Study; with the target attendees being those students in their final year of their study programmes, i.e. those taking State Examinations at Junior Cycle or at Leaving Certificate. A selection of revision materials are provided (revision timetables, study templates, paper, mini whiteboards, bite-sized study techniques etc.) and college chrome books are available for student use in Evening Study. Additionally, Evening Study is supervised by school staff to ensure a quiet and focused atmosphere.
Benefits of Evening Study.
Supports improved student academic performance through consistent study habits. Students in Evening Study quickly develop stronger time management and organisational skills. With a set routine, they learn to plan, prioritise, and complete their school, home and revision work more efficiently.
Many students who participate in Evening Study see measurable improvements in exam scores and overall results. Focused revision and regular homework completion contribute to stronger understanding and retention of key material.
For students scheduled to sit State Exams, Evening Study offers a valuable opportunity to revise regularly, with study supports. It promotes steady, manageable progress throughout the academic year.
Studying alongside likeminded peers, those equally focused on achievement and personal goals helps to create a culture of learning. Supervision by staff ensures that students stay on task and feel supported in their efforts.
