Additional Educational Needs: Additional Educational Needs (AEN) provision in St Mary’s College is an integral part of the continuum of support within the school. The main aim, in line with the College’s Mission Statement, is to help all students reach their potential within an inclusive school environment.

An AEN Team with a member dedicated to each year group, works in collaboration with students, their parents and their teachers to plan and provide support for students with additional physical, learning and/or behavioural needs. St Mary’s College uses the Continuum of Support to identify and respond to the needs of students.

‘Whole school Support for All’ relies on our established support systems to ensure all students have a positive learning experience. Collaboration between the Senior Leadership Team, Student Support Team, Year Teams and AEN Team ensures a proactive approach to responding to student needs. Whole School Support includes our Wellbeing Programme, our Transition to Post Primary School Programme, our Guidance Programme and our Buddy System to name a few.

Support for additional educational needs may be provided at the level of ‘Subject Classroom Support – for All’, ‘School Support for Some’ and ‘School Support Plus  - for  a Few’ and is evidence informed through a range of assessment and intervention approaches.  Student Support Plans documenting students’ strengths, interests and needs, as well as the priority learning needs that have been agreed as the basis for targets and interventions are created in collaboration with students and their parents/guardians for students on Support for Some and Support for a Few. This may include examination accommodations.
