Marist 5km Run/Walk Launch

 

Professor Niall Moyna DCU: Head of School: Health & Human Performance and a former past pupil of the College helped launch the Marist 5km Run/Walk on Friday evening with local athlete and current 6th year Student Israel Olatunde. The Professor has recently worked on shows “Operation Transformation” and “Doctor in the House”.

St Mary’s College student Israel Olatunde having had a very successful indoor season retaining his National U20 title and setting a new youth national record is about to embark on a very demanding outdoor season. Israel will participate in the Athletics Ireland Junior training camp in Portugal in April before competing in the Leinster Schools Championships in May. If everything goes to plan he will compete in the All Ireland Schools finals in Tullamore on 1 June. The Marist student will have a break from athletics while he completes his Leaving Certificate examinations in mid June.He will resume his sprinting programme in Mannheim in Germany on 29 June will the Irish Junior relay team. He will also compete in the individual 100m sprint. July will also be a very busy month for the Dundalk native as he will compete in the National Juvenile Championships before representing Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan from 21 – 27 July. All going well Israel will bring his season to an end in early August to begin a well-earned rest before going to university. The Marist 5km will take place on Friday, May 3rd. This will be a chipped race. Over 500 participants took part last year. The link is also available on our school Facebook page.  Registration is €20 and students have the opportunity to register in school for €10. The race will start and finish in the school grounds, St. Mary’s College.
